Welcome to “At Home with French”, part of “Language Gateway”

A small family-run company

with a foot quite literally on either side of the Channel – a base in the UK (Ash, near Guildford) and also in Brittany (Corseul, near Dinan). I am a British Francophile with a love for all things French – the culture, the language, the people (especially the Bretons) – which I aim to share with you. My aim is to create links between Brits and Bretons, bridging that language gap and bringing together those who wish to learn about each other and each other’s language, without losing sight of that all important element of “fun” and adventure.

At Home with French is for anyone needing or wishing to embrace French language and culture, for their studies, travel, work, or personal pleasure. You might be a student sitting your GCSEs or A levels (or a parent thereof), a business professional needing or wanting to acquire a certain level of French for your work, a holiday maker of any age, an individual or a family.

Personalised French Lessons

Being at home with French has much to do with feeling comfortable with both the language and the culture. If, for you, it is your language skills you wish to develop, you have the possibility of following personalised language lessons, either online in the comfort of your own home, or by an immersion course in my home in Brittany. Many students actually benefit from both – online lessons in advance of an immersion course, followed by more online lessons afterwards, but the choice is entirely yours.

If it is more the culture you wish to embrace, what better way than living with a French family who will look after you and show you around. No need to worry about your level of French with this option – many French families are very keen to be able to practise their English and may even offer you reduced rates in exchange for some English conversation.

Becoming a Host Family for a French student (teenager or adult)

You may equally be interested in offering British hospitality to a French student (you can specify which age range you prefer, as well as your dates and other preferences). Becoming a host family can be a great way to earn a little bit of extra income whilst learning about another culture without leaving your own home.
