There are many French people who would be interested in visiting the UK to practise their English. Becoming a host family can be a great way to forge links with a French family and get to know about another culture without leaving your home.

Should you be interested, I would ask you in the first instance to complete this form, and then I will contact you to arrange a visit if you live close enough to my UK base (near Guildford or Farnham in Surrey) or to organise a zoom meeting if you don’t. Ideally I like to guarantee to all potential guests that I have personally got to know each family – this is of course of huge benefit to you as well, in that I will make every effort to match up their requirements with your preferences.

is expected of a host family?

We would expect you to look after your guest as if they were a member of your family for the duration of their stay. The exact requirements will vary from student to student, especially depending on their age – but generally it will include providing them with their own room (with shared or en-suite bathroom), sharing meals together, talking with them and showing them around.
In general, because of the requirement for host families of under -18s to be DBS-checked (along with all adults living in the same household), we would generally only offer this host family service to 18s or over. However, if you are already DBS-checked, it might well be possible for you to host a younger student, should you wish. Please let me know if this is the case.
